HMC HealthWorks (HMC) is a national company offering chronic disease management, wellness and prevention programs, employee assistance and managed behavioral healthcare programs, pharmacy benefit management, disability management, integrated healthcare management, and other healthcare cost management programs. Active in the field for more than 35 years, Dr. DiMonaco is responsible for product development, quality improvement programs, marketing, sales, client services and new business development for HMC HealthWorks.
Specializing in Taft-Hartley, public sector, employer self -insured plans and joint labor/management programs, Dr. DiMonaco has been instrumental in integrating HMC programs with other healthcare providers for plan sponsors resulting in HMC clients having a full-range of seamless “best-in-class” and best practices for healthcare management services. Under Dr. DiMonaco’s direction, HMC customized an early intervention and managed care program for workers’ compensation and has developed and administered a medical surgical PPO for a coalition of Taft-Harley Funds. This system also served as a workers’ compensation network for many of the union employers.
While working with the Family Programs Directorate at Headquarters, United States Army, Europe, Dr. DiMonaco was responsible for the development and implementation of the Military and Family Life Consultant program, which provides solution-focused, problem-solving counseling services to soldiers and their family members to help relieve the stress and hardship as a result of the Global War on Terrorism. This program has since expanded to include all Military Services worldwide.
Dr. DiMonaco is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). She received her master’s degree and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Guidance and Psychological Services from Springfield College and her Ph.D. in Psychology from California Western University. Dr. DiMonaco serves as a board member of America’s Agenda as well as a member of the IFEBP Health Care Management Committee and a frequent presenter at IF conferences and other professional organizations.

Dr. Valerian joined HMC HealthWorks in 2010. He focuses on helping HMC HealthWorks measure the value of disparate care management and wellness programs. He is also a successful entrepreneur and business
owner of a healthcare consulting firm. Dr. Valerian is a medical writer contributing commentary as a thought leader for The Medical Pipeline Newsletter. He was formerly responsible for clinical program development, analytics and measuring success of targeted population health programs for Health Integrated Inc. and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Dr. Valerian received his doctoral degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his postgraduate training in Family Medicine at Duke University. Additionally, Dr. Valerian completed a master’s degree in Medical Management from Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.

Jane joined HMC HealthWorks in 1989. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin and holds responsibility for coordination of clinical programs and protocols.
She supports the sales team as a Clinical Account Executive. Jane received her Bachelor of Arts degree Clinical Psychology and received her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Additionally, Jane completed post-graduate studies in incest, sexual abuse, family systems, brief therapy, eating disorders, contemporary issues in mental health and addiction, and critical incident debriefing.

Laurie joined HMC HealthWorks in 1984. She has over 30 years experience in the health care industry, including employee assistance and behavioral health, prescription drug management, disease management and PPO network
development. Laurie is responsible for program implementations, data review and trend analysis for marketing new groups, ongoing account retention, and administrative oversight to ensure successful management of the company’s accounts.
Executive Vice President, West Region
Josh joined HMC HealthWorks in 1995. He is responsible for the growth, maintenance and retention of health and welfare benefits for a diverse group of accounts in the 11 western states.
He has over 25 years of experience working with joint labor and management groups and providing account management services. Josh was formerly the Department Manager of Labor and Trust for the Holman Group, as well as a Development Officer for Palmdale Psychological Services, a dual diagnosis chemical dependency unit in the high desert. Additionally, Josh was an Intake Coordinator at CRI-Help, Inc., a residential treatment center for drug and alcohol abuse in North Hollywood.
William Hoffman, Ph.D.
Bill joined HMC HealthWorks in 1997. He focuses on providing collaborative support to President, Janis DiMonaco. He has 22 years of experience in negotiations and program creation, design, and administration within the
automobile, aerospace and agricultural implement industries across the U.S. and Canada. Since 1997, Bill has maintained a consulting practice dealing with healthcare and retirement income issues for unions, companies and labor/management organizations. Bill was formerly the Director of the United Auto Workers’ Social Security Department where his responsibilities included health care, retirement, disability and layoff income protection issues both in the public policy and collective bargaining arenas.

Anna joined HMC HealthWorks in 2011. She has over 25 years of nursing experience including nursing leadership, emergency medicine, pain management, as well as health education and wellness coaching.
Anna started her clinical career as a Registered Radiologic Technologist. She received her Registered Nurse degree from Mount Carmel School of Nursing and completed her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, Anna is a certified pain management nurse.

and program management for both private and public sector. Bart was formerly an economist focusing on healthcare negotiations with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. He spent two years leading the managed care operations with a union owned insurance carrier serving the Taft-Hartley market. Bart received his master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and completed his bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University.

Mark joined HMC HealthWorks in 2000. He is responsible for the growth and account management of $1 billion of annual revenue for a major pharmacy benefit management company.
Mark also has sales and retention responsibilities for health and care management programs for numerous health and welfare benefit fund clients; and for the growth of opportunities nationally in a variety of healthcare business areas. Prior to joining HMC, Mark held sales, management and operations for various companies for 17 years, including with real estate, financial and privately held companies.

Jim joined HMC HealthWorks in 2012. He has 40 years of experience in health care benefits, particularly with respect to collectively-bargained benefits in joint labor management and single employer health and welfare trust funds.
Jim was formerly the Vice President, Collectively Bargained Compensation and Benefits at Safeway, Inc. Prior to that Jim was a Vice-President, Labor Relations at Albertson’s, Inc.; American Stores, Inc.; Bradlees, Inc.; and the Stop & Shop Supermarket Companies, Inc. Jim received his law degree from New York University School of Law and practiced law in New York City and the Metropolitan area.

She has led Behavioral Health/EAP teams for the past 10 years and currently oversees all operational areas of HMC’s Behavioral Health/EAP division, including utilization and case management, network development and credentialing, internal reporting, appeals and complaints, eligibility and benefits, and call center operations. She joined HMC after working for APS Healthcare since 2003. She began her career at APS as a clinical care manager and progressed to senior level roles as a Clinical Director and Program Director. Prior to APS, Ms. Smolkin provided direct patient care as a therapist at Prince George’s Hospital Center and in private practice. She is dedicated to developing and overseeing behavioral health programs that are successful for clients and positively impact individual outcomes.

Jon Reid joined HMC Healthworks in 2016. He has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare and pharmacy industries, including sales leadership, marketing management and operational leadership.
Prior to joining HMC Jon was responsible for the strategic expansion of sales growth for a top tier PBM in the labor and trust market. He also spent several years working in the insurance marketplace overseeing the daily operation of the company’s voluntary worksite administration division while building out a sales team that had strategic focus on relationship building with brokers and consultants throughout the U.S. Jon was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Marquette University.
